So who is Rosie? Rosie is the Roseate Spoonbill, the local tourist commission mascot. It is a large pink bird with a spoon shaped bill seen locally. Our parish seat, Jennings hosted the second annual Roasting with Rosie Bar-B-Que Festival today. Loryn's Jr. high Cheer team was going to compete in the Cheer contest, but major rains were predicted and her team pulled out of the competition.
But we went anyway to sample some ribs, brisket and chicken.
The BBQ contest is divided in to the pros, and local taster's choice teams. The taster's choice contest allows festival goers to vote on their favorites. Local vendors and restaurants also sell carnival foods.
Southern Bar-B-Que Sauce, a local hometown favorite has just joined as an Official Sponsor of the LSU Tigers as the official BBQ sauce!
Southern BBQ sauce has been made in Jeff Davis Parish for over 50 years, but it has always been a local thing, and it is good to see it getting statewide, even national exposure. I've done my part! Southern BBQ sauce has been in Danish kitchens for 10 years now, as we bring it as a gift, instead of wine!
Growing up, hamburgers were always served hot off of the BBQ pit and in a warm puddle of sauce on white Evangeline Maid Buns.

Barbecue sauce and lots of lovely food. Mmm...
Oh man, seeing all this food is making me hungry. Peter loves to BBQ and he bought himself a smoker for Fathers Day. He fires it up every chance he gets.
