Laundry day in Denmark circa 1999

Wash Day Blues
Journaling says:Laundry duties in Denmark took a little getting used to. Crawling down the rickety stairway into the dank basement, which also served as the bath, I encountered a side loading washer that had it's own water heating system. It practically boiled the clothes. A tumble dryer was not available so I asked Benny to put up a clothesline, which I loved to use on beautiful sunny days. I love this photo because it captures two things: the fact that Benny and I both love to wear the color blue and the way the northern light filtered through the trees in the side garden. Unfourtunately the hot summer turned to cool autumn and then colder winter and I had to hang the laundry in the dank dark basement. Benny placed a heater and a fan to help things along, otherwise the blue jeans took almost a week to dry. Greve Denmark Fall 1999.

Wow, a week to dry! It's funny how in retrospect we can look at difficult times with a little bit of fondness.
