4th of July Family reunion

Jimmy mans the pit under the house. While other sit back and relax and visit.

Up stairs in the kitchen we had a review of Litteral history and stories about the old days.
Including how the Litteral Family got to Louisiana from Kentucky in the first place!
It was the first time Benny was not working on the date of the reunion so I was glad that
he could hang out with the family. Turned out he recognised the kitchen and his co-worker designed and installed it. That co-worker was a relative of Jimmy's. So he got to go to back to work and say they were related by marriage, LOL! Small world.

The Litteral Family reunion was held at Diann and Jimmy Manning's "camp" on Big Lake. Hurricane Rita in '05 completely destroyed (meaning NOTHING was left over to find) the earlier camp. This was built to replace it and it is more like a fancy lake house, than a Cajun camp :) Hurricane Ike ,'08 ,took the stairs leading up to the house that was built up 30 ft high on stilts due to the new building codes after most of the coast was destroyed in 2005. They had been replaced just this past winter. The underbelly of the house made the perfect place for shade from the July heat.

In true Litteral style we had tons of food and plenty of leftovers...BBQ Chicken, brisket, Cajun Sausage, rice dressing, beans, salads, and vegetables all over the place. Plus some yummy desserts. I made a cute Jell-O flag dessert...Seems like I forgot to take a picture of it. Shyla came with us and she was happy for the Jell-O! My youngest cousin , a Texas Aggie, brought over a ton of watermelon from College Station that A&M are developing. It was delicious!

Also, I did not get a picture of Loryn, she was bored until she discovered the teens fishing in the lake and then when it was time to leave she didn't want to go! All of Daddy's siblings were able to come, too. so we had a big group of the Hathaway Litteral's in attendence. Actually my Mama and Daddy, Shyla, And Aunt Barbara and Uncle Charles were the only people that had the last name of Litteral in attendence. Most of my dad's closest cousins were from my Grandpa Litteral's sisters.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I kept forgetting to add your blog in my bloglist, and so now I have determined to do so and write you back.

First...that food looks DELICIOUS!!! Peter was never a BBQ-er until moving here, and now he has become a BBQ fanatic. He got a smoker for Father's Day and loves it.

Second, to answer your question...Emma is learning Danish, but it is kinda difficult because no one else except me and Peter speak it. However, we have had so many people comment that Emma speaks with an accent! When she does speak Danish, she speaks it perfectly.

I myself am slowly learning it..like you, my mouth just can't form some of the words and letters!
