3rd Annual Roastin' with Rosie

Today was the People's Choice BBQ contest as well as the Cheer and Dance Team Competition. Loryn's Jr. High Cheer Team placed First in the Dance Competition, as the HHS Lower and Upper Elementary Cheer teams did as well. It's a great ploy to get people to the Festival! All of the Cheer team members brought their families, so Hathaway, at least, was well represented! I don't think I'd want to go out when it is so hot otherwise. But since we were there, we might as well have a taste of the BBQ.

Roastin' with Rosie BBQ Festival

The People's Choice competitors booths each handed out ribs, chicken and brisket that they prepared this morning. The booths are sponsored by local companies. For $5 one could stuff themselves silly. Vegetarians need not bother, no veggies here! But the Coushatta Casino Booth handed out watermelon slices to cleanse the pallet and their hand carved Rosie watermelon was fabulous! The Citgo booth had a live band playing. I guess there were 11 booths total and we voted after we were done. They also have a Pro BBQ competition, but we did not even bother to walk done that row. We were hot and full, and I just wanted a cold drink. We even skipped the sweet booth, because I forgot about it once we were packed up (you have to bring your own chairs if you want to sit in the shade), and I have to apologize to Dee since I did not get to support her booth raising money for Relay for Life. ( OOPS, Sorry!)

We called it an early day since it was so hot. Last year it had rained in the morning and the sky was overcast, so it was much more comfortable weather wise, even though it was muddy.
All weekend they have live Cajun music and things going on...But we'll leave it to the others.
