4 years ago, New Orleans was underwater after the levees broke from the water surge from Hurricane Katrina. In remembrance I thought I would share pictures I took while in New Orleans in June, 2006, less than a year after the storm.
The first collage shows damage in the area leading towards St. Bernard Parish to the southeast of downtown New Orleans. New Orleans was not the only area hit, as coastal Mississippi, and Louisisana were in ruins afterwards.
The second set of pictures shows the many many FEMA Trailer parks, some RV camper type trailers, the other very BASIC mobile home type. They were made quickly and of substandard materails and made the residents sick.
The third set of Pictures shows the French Quarter, very much untouched by weather damage, however, this is in JUNE ...note the lack of people, usually the French Quarter is swarming with people.

So sad to see all the damage.
It's amazing to think that Katrina hit FOUR years ago...time sure flies.
This post reminds me of how we felt about South Florida after Hurricane Andrew hit. We had moved from Homestead AFB the year before, were living in Scotland, and had some household goods still stored down there. And of course all of our friends. They sent us pictures, and it was just heartbreaking to read about it all and see the destruction.
